Fool ’Em with Food!
April Fools’ Day food pranks from
Go Organically® organic fruit snacks
We’re big fans of April Fools’ Day because it makes our kids happy while giving us an excuse to be silly. And because we love food so much (don’t judge!), our favorite pranks are usually born in the kitchen.
All of these food pranks allow you to use organic and natural ingredients you feel good about giving your family—and some even include our very own Go Organically® organic fruit snacks. Whether you trick your kids or team up with them to fool your spouse, we’re sure the whole family will love these good-natured gags.
Want to make them “roll” with laughter? Create yummy dessert sushi in a few seconds flat. Slice a vanilla snack cake or muffin into pieces that are about one inch tall. Wrap each piece with colorful fruit leather around the edges, then top with a garnish of sliced Go Organically organic fruit snacks. Your kids definitely won’t want to add wasabi to this one!
Cupcakes in Costume
Fill a muffin tin with your favorite meatloaf recipe. Once baked and cooled, top each mini meatloaf with mashed potato “icing,” then decorate with colorful Go Organically organic fruit snacks and to create a meal masquerading as a treat.
Deviled Eggs for Dessert?
Give this classic party appetizer a sweet new center. Cut hardboiled eggs in half lengthwise, then remove the cooked yolk. Add a little turmeric or saffron to homemade frosting to turn it golden, then fill each egg with a swirl. Sprinkle with cinnamon for an eggs-cellent prank!
Incognito Grilled Cheese
Mix homemade frosting with a few drops of carrot juice plus turmeric or saffron until you achieve the perfect shade of cheesy orange. Spread the mixture between two slices of organic pound cake for a “grilled cheese” they’ll never forget!
This one might produce a couple of disappointed groans. Yell out, “I made brownies!” to your crew, then watch their hungry faces change expressions as you pull away the piece of foil covering your brownie pan. What will they see? A bunch of letter “E’s” cut out from brown construction paper. Get it? Brown E’s?? We won’t quit our day job.
Prepare a package of organic vanilla cake mix and fill a round pan about 1/3 full. When the cake is baked and cooled, spread on a layer of strawberry jelly “sauce” and top with shredded white chocolate “cheese.” Have fun adding different toppings, such as red fruit leather circles to look like pepperoni or natural black licorice pieces to mimic olives. We’ve even used red and green Go Organically organic fruit snacks to look like bits of bell pepper. Mangia!
